Job cuts: Chamisa denies responsibility
18 Aug 2015 at 09:56hrs | Views
Nelson Chamisa MDC-T legislator-cum-lawyer yesterday denied responsibility for the ongoing job cuts which followed his successful representation of Zuva Petroleum in a Supreme Court case where the firm defended the decision to terminate workers' contracts on three months' notice.
The court upheld the decision on July 17, causing more than 20 000 job losses inside a month as several distressed companies laid off staff at minimum cost.
The court's decision put Chamisa in the firing line from fellow party members and labour unions who accused him of "betraying his labour background by supping with the devil".
However, Chamisa said he was just being targeted for interpreting and exposing bad labour laws.
