Man gives wife $2 divorce token

A Harare man- Andrew Jimu gave his wife of 13 years mere $2 as divorce token and later changed his mind after she applied for maintenance.

Jimu divorced his wife Mercylin Nyararai to pave way for his small house.

"We are legally married but he divorced me and gave me $2 as a divorce token in the presence of my father" she said in court.

"He moved out and was staying with another woman. He later came back home after I had applied for maintenance but he wants to lie before this court that we are staying together yet we are not,'

"He repairs refrigerators earning $100 per day,'.

However, Jimu said " I gave her a divorce token but the cause was settled and we moved back together.

"I'm surprised that she is asking for maintenance yet were are living under one roof.

"I divorced her because she was lying to me, she told me that she was living with a friend. For three months, I stayed away until she approached me and asked me back".

"If she is divorcing me she is doing it right now in here".
