The First Lady and National Secretary for the Zanu-PF Women's League, Amai Dr Grace Mugabe has hailed women for being the backbone of the ruling party and for continuing to be resilient and focused as the country goes through turbulent times.
Dr Mugabe was addressing the inaugural Women's League National Assembly at the party headquarters in Harare.
She said it is time for the women to bury the past and move forward in unity with affairs of the party.
Amai Mugabe said the jubilant spirit and mood exuded by the national assembly is testimony that the women are unwavering and resolute in continuing to stand with Zanu-PF.
She said the women's league will remain united despite all negative things that may come from enemies of the party.
Dr Mugabe, who began her address by listing the grievances of women and youths that include land for housing and farming for women and youths, outlined some of the achievements attained by the league so far.
These included the donation of 6 motor vehicles for the chairpersons that were distributed yesterday.
She highlighted the need for empowerment of women and youths saying the women's league has approached a local bank to allow members to open bank accounts that will help them get loans for empowerment projects.
She said the minimum agreed for opening the account is five dollars.
The 1st Lady assured the meeting that the Women's League is now a united and formidable force uniting old tried and tested members and the new stock.
On another note, Amai Mugabe said no amount of bad talk and distortions will succeed in creating bad blood between her and the two national Vice Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko.
She deplored in the strongest terms the issue of factionalism that some in the party seek to perpetuate to settle old scores.
Dr Mugabe also spoke strongly against land barons saying they cause suffering among women and children when families have their illegal structures destroyed.
