Govt to lose revenue on workers' dismissals

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has indicated that the government will lose a lot of revenue which it used to collect from workers as income tax and other taxes following the escalated workers dismissals rocking the nation since 17 July after the Supreme court ruled the employers can fire workers on three months notice.
ZCTU Secretary general Japhet Moyo said government is likely to loose revenue from the 20,000 workers dismissed in the form of both income tax and sales tax.
"Therefore one would think that maybe a corresponding number or more of bodies is likely to go also within the public and civil service," he said.
"I bet my last dollar that once Zanu-PF believe that there is no threat to its rule then those overzealous police officers might find themselves looking for vending tables in this crowded market."
