Chinhoyi to reinstate 124 workers

Chinhoyi council will reinstate the 124 workers it fired last week following a directive by Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere to reverse the action.

Addressing council workers at the Zanu-PF provincial offices in Chinhoyi, Mayor Test Michaels said councilors will meet tomorrow to rescind the letters of termination of employment to allow the workers to return to work.

Chinhoyi municipality fired the workers, including two heads of departments, taking advantage of the Supreme Court ruling which allows employers to terminate workers' contracts on three months' notice.

Some of the workers served with dismissal letters last Thursday include housing director Timothy Marengere and health director William Mayavo.
