Midnight maths lesson ends in rape

A GOOD Samaritan who offered a pregnant woman free mathematics lessons just before her Ordinary Level examinations has been jailed 12 years after he raped her.
Takavarasha Kugedera, 26, raped the woman who had been offered accommodation by his mother near the examination venue in November last year after offering her free lessons that lasted until midnight.
Appearing before Masvingo senior regional court magistrate Judith Zuyu, Kugedera pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape.
He said the woman consented and did not scream for help.
He was, however, convicted due to overwhelming evidence against him and sentenced to 12 years in jail.
In passing sentence Zuyu said it was folly for Kugedera to betray his student's trust by raping her.
"You took advantage of your victim's circumstances and raped her.
"What she wanted from you was to be assisted with her revision as she was preparing for examinations but you decided to betray her trust and forced yourself on her," said the magistrate.
"A Good Samaritan will render assistance to people in difficult times purely on humanitarian grounds without forcibly engaged in sex with those in need of help at the end.
"You deserve to be punished so that you learn how to control your insatiable desire for sex. The fact that the complainant didn't scream doesn't mean that you didn't commit the offence."
Moreblessing Rusere, prosecuting said in November last year, the woman was offered accommodation by Kugedera's mother so that she could sit for her examination the following morning.
"On November, 12, 2014 around 6PM the woman found Kugedera home at Nemamwa Growth Point but his mother was away attending a funeral in the same village.
"Kugedera assisted his victim with her revision until around midnight. The woman retired to bed and after about two hours, Kugedera got into the woman's room and switched off the lights," said Rusere.
"Kugedera touched the woman's breasts before raping her once and thereafter returned to his room.
"The woman then informed her relatives through WhatsApp, leading to Kugedera's arrest."
