A NATVIEW Park family was left homeless after their temporary cabin was demolished by a rival claiming to have bought the same residential stand.

Constance Murasiranwa had to content with the vagaries of the cold Monday night with her four children after her cabin was allegedly demolished by Rodgers Chamuturikwa.Ms Murasiranwa told The Manica Post that she acquired her stand from Eastern Highlands, A Housing Scheme under the chairmanship of Micah Duru in 2004, but she started having problems with Chamuturikwa in 2013 when he visited them and claimed that he was the rightful owner of the stand.

"We bought this stand in 2004 when my husband was still alive, but this problem started just after his death in 2013 when Rodgers began claiming ownership of the same stand. Apparently, the stand was sold to him by Lovemore Muuyu who was the treasurer of the housing scheme at that time. Muuyu was my husband's workmate and knew a lot about the stand, so I think he used that knowledge to fraudulently sell our stand to Rodgers," said Murasiranwa.

Murasiranwa said  she was staying in Chikanga when she heard word that someone was developing their stand.

"I sensed that something was wrong when I was told that Rodgers was already building on the concrete slab that we had erected and up to now, I don't understand how someone can claim ownership of a stand where construction work had commenced. I protested by erecting a cabin inside the building and moved into the makeshift house.

"The dispute raged on until he went to the courts and acquired an eviction order against me. It was dated August 17 and acting on that order, the Messenger of Court came and demolished my cabin, leaving me and my children homeless," said an emotional Murasiranwa.

Asked on her next move,  Murasiranwa said she was praying for  Duru's intervention.

"I am just hoping that the situation will be looked into as a matter of urgency. Duru should either allocate another stand to this man or help me prove that I am the rightful owner of the stand. When we spoke to him he said that they will find another stand to compensate me with, but he is not certain if that stand is available. It also doesn't make sense for him to try and work out something to compensate me when in fact I was the first to be allocated that stand. He should look for another stand to allocate to Rodgers not the other way round.

"And Rodgers has refused to vacate my stand saying I should sue the cooperative as he was also duped. If I had known that I would face all these challenges, I would have not wasted my money investing in the stand," she said.
