Zanu-PF official dies

Zanu PF Central Committee member and war veterans national executive member, Tobias Joram Jaboon has died aged 79.

The late freedom fighter, whose Chimurenga name was Opera Mabhunu died yesterday at Madhombiro Clinic in Bikita.

He joined the liberation struggle in 1975 and received military training at Mapinduzi Camp in Tanzania and was later deployed to Mudzingadzi where he worked.

The late  war veteran was then appointed Acting Production and Construction Secretary and Commander at Doroi Refugee Camp.

At independence, his platoon remained in Mozambique to construct and rehabilitate graves of fallen heroes.

Jaboon remained politically active after independence, becoming a councillor for two consecutive terms, a member of the Zanu PF National Consultative Assembly and recently into the Central Committee at the party's 6th National Congress.

He is survived by 11 children, 23 grand-children and two great-grand-children.

Meanwhile, the Masvingo provincial leadership has requested that Jaboon be accorded national hero status.
