National broadcaster ZBC has taken heed of the call by viewers to bring back news anchor Rumbidzai Takawira affectionately known as NewsBae after she was fired recently in terms of the Supreme Court ruling allowing employers to terminate employees' contracts on three months' notice.
Takawira was on air on Thursday evening during the broadcaster's news slot, News Hour, a day after President Robert Mugabe had signed the Labour Amendment Bill into law .
NewsBae was one of the close to 300 workers whose contracts were terminated by the national broadcaster.
Takawira's return is still unexplained as ZBC has not issued a statement outlining why they brought her back a few weeks after letting her go.
After NewsBae was fired, there was an outcry to have her reinstated from viewers on various social networking sites.
Hashtags NewsBae and #BringBackOurNewsBae were created in solidarity with Takawira.
Some said they would stop watching News Hour if Takawira was not given her job back.
News Hour had never been the same since Takawira took over as the 8PM news anchor last year.
Her good looks and flawless news presentation skills had stolen the hearts of many.
NewsBae began her career at ZBCtv as a presenter on Good Morning Zimbabwe in 2012 and quickly became popular.
She earned herself a spot on prime time television and started reading the 8PM news.
Takawira was branded NewsBae by her followers on Twitter in reference to her beauty.
