A Harare man offered $20 for food only saying his child will have to do without the other basics.

Prosper Sabawu made the offer at the Harare Civil Court where he had been dragged for failure to sustain his child and wife.

"I want $50 for the child's upkeep. He does not care what the child eats or wears. I want him to contribute something," said Hazel Madondo.

"I am unemployed and rely on well wishers for a living. I am struggling to secure a job but i am doing what i can do," he said.

"I can not pay $50 but  i can afford $20 for the child's upkeep. The $20 will cover the child's food only and cannot offer more for clothes or rentals."

The magistrate Gamuchirai Siwadi ordered him to pay $45 effective September 31 challenging him tom find source of livelihood.
