Food processing company Cairns Foods has been commended for being resilient and increasing production at a time other firms are closing shop.
Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has toured several industries in Manicaland to get an appreciation of the state of affairs.
He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Manicaland Mandi Chimene and the Minister of Energy and Power Development Dr Samuel Undenge.
Vice President Mphoko's visit comes at a time key economic industries in Manicaland have closed shop.
Cairns Foods has, however, defied odds and instead of downsizing, the company has increased its capacity utilization from a mere 8 percent to about 30 percent.
The company's resilience was commended by Mphoko.
The company's acting chief executive officer Jeremiah Kwenda says the firm is on a recovery path and a new investor is coming on board.
The province is fighting hard to make things happen despite the closure of many key economic sectors, notes Chimene.
Through the Distressed and Marginalised Companies Fund, Cairns Foods as one of the major agricultural processing plant in Manicaland received $1 million.
The inputs support scheme has since been restarted and new machinery to revive the baked beans line has been procured.
