A 24 year old security guard has been sentenced to 10 years for armed robbery.
Tatenda Chimutanda was convicted on his own plea on one of 4 counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery and another count of unlawful possession of a fire arm.
Chimutanda was targeting service stations where he would pretend to buy fuel using a container and would produce a revolver and demand cash from fuel attendants.
Using the same method, he robbed a number of service stations that include Zuva, Total, Engen and Trek service stations in Harare.
The state led by Mrs Tinashe Makiya Kanyemba argued that the accused must be given a stiffer penalty as cases of armed robbery are serious and affect society.
In passing sentence, Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa supported the state's submissions and said armed robbery cases must be taken seriously.
