Mahachi fights dismissal in High Court

Tendai Mahachi fired Harare town clerk has taken his fight to the High Court, seeking reinstatement and arguing that the local authority should have taken his matter to the Local Government Board as provided for under the Urban Councils Act.

Mahachi, whose contract was terminated last week, has described the move as illegal.

Through his lawyer Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba instructed by Chenjerai Daitai of Magwaliba and Kwirira Legal Practitioners, the former town clerk said section 139 (2) of the Urban Councils Act prescribed that the local authority should seek the consent of the Local Government Board before terminating a senior manager's contract.
