Face-off over prepaid water meters

Harare residents yesterday stepped up resistance against the introduction of prepaid water meters as the city piloted its first 2000 meters in the city ahead of a full roll-out in March 2016.

Residents argued that water is basic human right and not a luxury, and accused council of attempting to deny people access to water.

However the city has said the needs of the vulnerable will be catered for when the city eventually rolls out the meters on a more permanent.
