Former Air Zimbabwe Holdings Private Limited Company Secretary Grace Nyaradzayi Pfumbidzayi has been granted bail by the High Court weeks after being re-instated to her former position of acting managing director.
The reinstatement of Pfumbidzayi come after the company rescinded her purported dismissal following an arbitrator's ruling that it was un-procedural.
Pfumbidzayi along with Peter Chikumba, the former Air Zim chief executive officer (CEO), who was also released on $2000 bail on Wednesday were slapped with a seven year sentence each for abuse of office and corruption
Pfumbidzayi had been convicted for criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.
High Court judge Justice Happious Zhou has ordered the release of Pfumbidzayi from Chikurubi Maximum Prison on US$5 000 bail.
Justice Zhou found that the magistrates court misdirected itself by ruling that there was a risk of abscondment on Pfumbidzayi's part as she had been slapped with a lengthy jail term.
He said while the period of imprisonment is relevant it is not proof that the appellant will not avail herself to serve her sentence should her appeal fail.
He additionally ordered Pfumbidzayi to deposit the money, her passport and title deeds to her Masvingo and Harare properties with clerk of court at Harare Magistrates Court and to report twice weekly at Marlborough Police Station.
Her reinstatement was communicated to her in a letter dated August 4 2015 by the company's acting manager in the airline's human resources department, identified only as Munkhodya.
"We make further reference to the Arbitral Award by T Zimudzana reinstating you to the position of Acting Managing Director.
"Whilst Air Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited does not agree with the conclusion reached by the arbitrator, Air Zimbabwe has taken a decision to reinstate you to your former position as Acting Managing Director."
He added: "You are hereby supposed to return back to work with immediate effect and we advise accordingly, and look forward to seeing you at work."
