Harare Residents Trust has said most of the women who are being detained for failure to pay medical bills at a Harare Hospital are poor and drawn from Hopley, Epworth and surrounding areas.
"Most of the women detained at the Kugomba at Harare Hospital are drawn from the poor communities around Harare, Hopley, Epworth and surrounding rural areas, who would have been referred from local clinics," said the Trust.
"The women cannot escape because the Hospital has employed a security company to maintain tight security and monitoring on the women so that they do not leave the hospital before settling their bills. The HRT continues to investigate the matter. Information has been sourced from a diverse group of people familiar with the goings on at the hospital. They know what they are talking about."
