A MUTARE woman appeared before a senior magistrate facing charges of illegally marrying two men on different occasions under Civil Marriages Act.
Tambudzai Muwandi (31) of House Number 8252 Nyamauru in Dangamvura allegedly committed bigamy when she contracted a second marriage to Julius Tawanda Mukajami on September 3, 2005.
Her first marriage to Jonathan Kisi at the Harare Civil Courts on August 8, 2004 which still subsisted.
The matter came to light when the court received a letter from a marriage officer to investigate the accused person.
Muwandi pleaded guilty to the crime.
"So you think you can move around contracting these civil marriages.
"You were supposed to take legal procedures in dissolving the first marriage," said Mrs Sekai Chiundura.
In her defence, Muwandi told the court that she was married to Kisi for three years.
Muwandi said that she was customarily divorced because she failed to conceive.
She then got married to Mukajami at Mufudzi Wakanaka Parish and gave birth to three children.
Muwandi was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment which were wholly suspended on condition that she legally dissolve the first marriage within the next five years.
Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
