'Mujuru met US diplomats to plot against Mugabe'

Zanu-PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere told party supporters that ousted Vice-President Joice Mujuru's waterloo was holding unsanctioned meetings with United States diplomats at her private residence.
Addressing a campaign rally in Mbire, Kanyemba Mashonaland Central province, Kasukuwere said Mujuru was, in 2009, "dragged" by former Mbire MP David Butau to meet former US Ambassador Charles Ray and this marked her political downfall.
"This by-election came because some people were becoming counter-revolutionary. President Mugabe is founder of the party and you can't talk of ambition for a post that is not reachable," he said.
"We should defend the founder of the country. For us to be stable, we need a strong leader and a strong party, let's defend him."
Kasukuwere alleged Mujuru met US diplomats to plot against Mugabe.
"He [Butau] dragged Mujuru to the US Ambassador in the dark at a private place and actually made coffee, if you are a VP and you go for a clandestine meeting with a whiteman that is selling out," he said.
"What did they discuss with people who are still bitter with the President because he chose to empower the black majority?"
Kasukuwere claimed Mujuru wanted to wrest power from Mugabe after the 91-year-old had campaigned vigorously ahead of the 2013 elections.
"Others said he must hand over to me. You think he campaigned for you. There is nothing to prepare, take it easy. If anyone is planning or making any schemes, we will kick you out."
He threatened all recipients of Butau's donations including motorbikes that they had no place in Zanu-PF. Zanu-PF candidate, Douglas Karoro will battle it out with Kudzanai Gondo of Transform Zimbabwe and Njabulo Sibanda of NCA.
