A cornered woman allegedly offered her would-be rapist $30 for him to let her go unharmed, but the assailant went on to rape her before robbing her of the cash.
The accused, Takesure Muchaendepi (28), appeared in court this week facing rape and robbery charges before magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba, who remanded him in custody to September 30.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The State's case is that on September 1, in the Muzvezve area, the accused met the complainant at a secluded spot in the bush and proposed love promising to marry her.
The court heard the complainant spurned the accused's advances, but he insisted. After his failed bid, the man then threatened to rape the complainant who pleaded with him saying she could pay him $30 for her freedom.
Muchaendepi allegedly went on to have sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent before demanding the money and fled the scene.
Reginald Chavora prosecuted.
