A Dynamos fan from Zvishavane who allegedly killed an FC Platinum fan on Saturday last week following a misunderstanding over the match which had just been played between the two teams in which the Harare giants lost by 3-1 has been hauled before a Zvishavane court.
Tafara Shava (32) of Mandava high density suburb in Zvishavane appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Mr Tavengwa Sangster on Tuesday facing murder and assault charges. Shava was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 28 September. Mr Sangster advised Shava to apply for bail at the High Court.
For the State, Miss Sheila Mpindu told the court that Shava killed Albert Sibanda (17) of the same suburb before attacking his brother Reveal who tried to restrain him following the misunderstanding.
Miss Mpindu told the court that on the fateful day at around 5.30 pm Shava met Sibanda who was in the company of his three siblings at Chiedza Hall while he was coming from an Econet shop where he had just withdrawn money from his Ecocash account.
The two who knew each other started discussing the match where Sibanda was speaking in favour of FC Platinum while Shava was speaking in favour of Dynamos.
She told the court that a heated argument ensued between the two resulting in Shava pulling out an Okapi knife from his pocket and attempted to stab Sibanda but he missed giving the victim a chance to escape.
The court heard that Shava chased after Sibanda and caught up with him after a few metres where he tripped him to the ground before stabbing him on the left side of his back.
Sibanda's brother Reveal followed and tried to refrain Shava but was also stabbed on the left arm.
Shava was then arrested by a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee and taken to the police.
Sibanda started bleeding profusely as he had sustained a deep cut on the left side of his back. He was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital where he died upon admission.
