Parastatal bosses' hefty salaries still uncapped

In March 2014, Cabinet capped salaries and allowances for State-owned companies' bosses to a maximum $6000 per month, following outrage that the managers were bleeding the loss making institutions.
However, on Wednesday, Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa told Parliament that the salary cap was yet to be effected, pending the endorsement and enactment of the Corporate Governance Bill.
Chinamasa said the Bill was one of the 14 presented by President Robert Mugabe for debate during the current Parliament session.
In his pronouncement of the salary caps last year, the Treasury boss said; "With immediate effect Cabinet decided, as an interim measure, that no CE of any State enterprise, parastatals or local authority should receive a total pay package which is above $6000 per month. At that time he also said that a Cabinet committee was going to carry out investigations."
