President Mugabe has said sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the west are stifling efforts to resuscitate the economy.

Addressing a plenary session on the adoption of the UN's new sustainable development agenda 2030 in New York, President  Mugabe called on western powers who imposed the illegal sanctions to remove them.

He said the western countries's decision to suspend aid and the imposition of travel bans on the country ‘s leadership and assets freeze has impacted negatively on the country's economic development and foreign direct investment inflows.

President Mugabe is expected to attend a South to South Cooperation high level meeting co-hosted by Chinese President, Xi Jingpin and UN Secretary General, Ban ki Moon today.
