ZANU PF spin doctor legislator Psychology Maziwisa (Highfield West MP) has claimed that negative comments on social media by Zimbabweans mostly targeting President Robert Mugabe are driving off foreign investors.
Maziwisa was elected MP during the June 10 by-elections.
He said Zimbabweans used to be a very proud people, known universally for priding themselves in the uniqueness of their culture, their robust educational system and fierce sense of patriotism.
He said elders where respected and it was considered a personal responsibility to speak positively about the country.
"And yet, regrettably, it is with a heavy heart that i have to inform you that all of that has vanished into thin air with the advent of social media" he posted on his official FaceBook page on Sunday.
"Almost every post you come across now has to have something hideously negative about our country. We deride our own President for no justifiable reason. We find excitement in mocking our own infrastructure.
"Some have even gone to the extent of wishing that they were of a different nationality".
He said very few locals invest their time and energy on marketing 'our beautiful country'.
"It has become so fashionable to be critical of Zimbabwe just for the sake of it.
"Of course the consequences have been dire. We have caused enormous damage to our reputation abroad and to the ongoing efforts to lure foreign direct investment. The truth is that investors do consider a variety of factors before investing in a country and public opinion is one of them".
