The government and the European Union (EU) have signed five financial agreements to the tune of €(Euros)89 million.

The agreements have been signed under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) National Indicative Programme.

The five financing agreements are meant to strengthen the national health systems, enhance the country's food and nutrition status as well as help improve accountability in the use of public resources.

The agreements are part of the €234 million EDF 2014-2020 National Indicative Programme.

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Patrick Chinamasa said the Zimbabwean government is committed to re-engage with the EU economic bloc.

"The intervention by the EU in the three identified focal areas dovetails into our national development thrust as enunciated in the ZIMASSET, as well as the 10 point plan," he said.

Under the €89 million agreements, €55 million will go towards improving health outcomes, €15 million to food and nutrition security, while €11 million will be channelled to the public finance management enhancement programme.

The National Indicative Programme is a joint cooperation strategy developed by the government of Zimbabwe and the EU and was signed in February 2015.
