A 32-YEAR-OLD maid has been arrested for stealing households goods from her employer valued at $1 650, barely 48 hours after being offered a job. The maid, Cynthia Dick Ankelo, had been offered a job by one Emmanuel Bususu (66) from Glen View on September 6 before she disappeared with his goods two days later.
Cynthia was also accused of stealing R3 000 and $800 cash from the senior citizen's bedroom. However, Cynthia ran out of luck after she was arrested in her rural home of Hurungwe spending part of the money believed to be proceeds from the stolen goods. "I can't believe that I nearly lost everything to this maid," said the distraught Bususu.
"I only offered her employment on September 6 only for her to steal from me two days later. "On the day in question, I was shocked to discover that all the doors to my house had been locked when I arrived home from town. "When she loaded the goods in the truck, neighbours thought she was one of my tenants who was leaving.
"I thank the investigating officer because he worked tirelessly until she was arrested in Hurungwe," he said. Bususu said Cynthia took part of her loot to Prospect in Waterfalls where she was renting a house. "When Cynthia was arrested in Hurungwe after being tracked on her mobile phone, she told the police that she had left part of the stolen goods in Waterfalls where we discovered almost everything.
"She never argued with the police as she soiled herself in fear after being apprehended and she also complied with the police which made their job easier." Cynthia was said to have left R1 200 with her sister, Pauline Dick's boyfriend only identified as Takawira of Epworth before leaving to Hurungwe where she bought new clothes and shoes for her relatives.
One of the neighbours Stewart Kabhunu, who accompanied the police detail to Hurungwe, told H-Metro that they found her enjoying breakfast at around 6am. "We found her enjoying a heavy breakfast early in the morning probably from part of the proceeds," said Kabhunu. Cynthia was said to have met Bususu's niece, who was looking for a maid, at Market Square in Harare.
Cynthia was said to have approached the niece who took her to Glen View where Bususu stays with one tenant. Only R1 500, groceries and furniture left in Prospect was recovered.
