Zimbabwe govt to recruit more lawyers

The government is set to recruit more lawyers under the Legal Aid Directorate.
The lawyers will represent those who cannot afford legal costs in an effort to improve justice delivery.
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the government, through its partners, has made tremendous effort in bringing justice to the poor.
He said the Legal Aid Directorate, which aims at assisting the needy, is a right step in achieving the goals of the ZIMASSET under the provision of social services cluster.
The Vice President applauded UNICEF and Danida for partnering with the government and providing equipment for use by the Legal Aid Directorate and the pre-trial diversion department.
Meanwhile, the UNICEF country representative, Mr Reza Hodsaini said his organisation is committed to providing assistance to improve justice delivery in Zimbabwe.
UNICEF and Danida donated office equipment, computers and motor bikes for use by the Legal Aid Directorate and the pre trial diversion department.
The function was attended by stakeholders in the justice delivery system who include the Prosecutor-General, Mr johanese Tomana and the Attorney-General Mr Prince Machaya, among others.
