A donkey has mated with a zebra, resulting in the zebra giving birth to a Zonki.
The zebra which has been staying in Masvitsa Village in Guruve, Mashonaland Central province for the past two years is very protective of its young one which it is still feeding.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson, Caroline Washaya-Moyo who visited the area found the two comfortably grazing together with cattle from the local community.
Washaya-Moyo says the young one is a donkey except from the front legs where one can notice zebra stripes.
Some villagers have complained that the zebra feeds on maize during the farming season and that the donkey which happens to be the father to the Zonki is rarely seen in the company of the two.
However, Washaya-Moyo says a Zonki cannot produce offspring on its own as the cross-breeding of two different species often result in their young being sterile and unable to continue a population.
