The ruling ZANU-PF Manicaland Province has demanded government to enforce the devolution of power concept as demanded by the people of Zimbabwe in the constitution making process.

Minister of State for Manicaland Province Mandy Chimwene called on the government to start making sure that people of the province benefit from the resources of their province.

Addressing about six thousand ZANU PF supporters gathered at Cashel Valley Estates in Manicaland province at the first lady Grace Mugabe's visit to the province, Minister Chimwene said that the people of Manicaland were not happy that investors come to the province and harvest resources and take away everything and not leave anything to benefit the locals.

"We are a very rich province but are not benefitting anything from the richies of our province," she said.

"We want government to immediately start making sure that a part of everything harvested from our province is left to benefit the people here."

"Our roads are damaged by trucks that come to collect resources here and not leave anything to even repair the roads they use."

Minister Chimwene lamented on how the province has failed to benefit anything from the diamonds that are being mined in the province at Chiyadzwa.

"Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds!!! Lots of diamonds have been mined from the province but there is nothing to show that we have diamonds here,"

"Even if we would be given just five stones of diamonds all our roads will be fixed," she said. "We have always said to them if it's difficult to give us our share in cash they can give it to us as diamonds then we're dispose it and get money to fix our roads."

In the constitution making process the people of Manicaland and Matabeleland regions were very vocal on having devolution of power in the country specifically to help them enjoy from their resources which they felt were being used in the development of other provinces while they remained marginalised.

Since the constitution was put in place Government has not shown the political will to implement the devolution of power system. The Provincial Councils which are bound by the constitution to administer issues of the provinces have not even been set up since the constitution became law in May 2013.
