President Robert Mugabe said Zimbabwe still very far from satisfying the urban housing demand, hence employers, private companies and individuals should come together and partner government in providing decent housing, ZBC reported on Friday.

Mugabe said this while officially opening five blocks of flats in the Willowvale section of Highfield in Harare.

"This Willowvale housing project is indeed a welcome gesture, it develops Harare and Highfield in particular. Highfield is a place rich with our history and should therefore be developed," said Mugabe.

The Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Mr. Giles Mutsekwa said they have put all measures in place to make sure the intended beneficiaries get the houses.

In the 2011 budget government allocated US$25 million as a revolving fund to the housing sector which has seen government engaging in a number of projects with one of them being the Willowvale project.

Under the project, 20% of the flats were allocated to civil servants who are supposed to pay US$3 600 deposit and pay the balance over 20 years.
