Matabeleland South MDC Chairman Pilate Ndebele has accused Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere over his remarks that Gwanda town must endorse the installation of the pre-paid water meters.
Kasukuwere recently visited Gwanda where he said the Gwanda should endorse the the installation of pre-paid meters which he said would favour the efficient provision of water to the town.
Ndebele said the pre-paid water meters were a sad move fopr thje mining town.
"Kasukuwere come all the way from Harare to tell the people in Gwanda that they must pay for water before they use them this is bad," Ndebele said. "If he comes to say that in Matabeleland South the province which has been so much marginalised by his government since 1980, it is an insult to the people.
There are old people who had lost husbands during Gukurahundi and children , where are they going to get the money to buy water.
The government must first solve the economy before implementing such way ward policies. People here struggle to get food and now you expect them to look for money to buy water. This will cause a lot of diseases."
Ndebele said this shows that the government is full of heartless people and they are imposing another Gukurahundi on us.
He said people cry that the economy must be revived and that jobs must be provided yet the government introduce such unfair policies.
