Man sodomises son, rapes daughter

JUSTICE delayed is justice denied, so goes the popular cliche. This could be the case with Marondera residents who demand justice to be done to a local public servant who allegedly raped his daughter before it eventually emerged that he had previously even sodomised his son! However, the culprit, Doubt Gava (not his real name) denied the allegations saying the rumours were being spread by his wife Esther.

Gava was put on leave after the incident in a way to clear the story which is awash in the town and has perplexed and mortified a horrified community. Farai is in the hands of FINEX near Marondera Hospital a place where abused children are looked after while his sister Sally is with mother Esther at the village.

Gava is alleged to have raped his daughter Sally Gava (8) before sodomising his son Farai Gava (9) after his separation with estranged wife Esther. Gava raped Sally after he took her to his brother's house (address withheld) in Dombotombo before an elderly woman at an orphanage home discovered it.

Farai was allegedly sodomised at Gava's House in Lendy Park Marondera (address withheld) for several times before he reported the repeated anal rape to his friends. When H-Metro visited Gava at his home yesterday he was watering his garden and confirmed the rumour. "It is true that people are saying that but do you think I can rape and sodomise my children?" he asked as he exercised his green fingers. "It is a cooked-up story after a domestic violence matter with my wife."

"I started leave on Monday and my lawyer Dumbura can furnish you with finer details," he said as he continued to tend to his garden. "As someone known in the community people found gossip to tarnish my image and it is common with people," said Gava. Workers at the place where he works were awash with the story and they told H-Metro that he was given 40 days leave to clear his mess.

The grapevine has grown heavy from the fruit of the whole issue as it continues to bear more fruit and hog the limelight. Others are outraged. They think the law is stalling as almost twice the suspected paedophile has escaped from attending court for unknown reasons besides the fact that he is still enjoying his day in the sun out of custody.

They feel he has to be caged for such a sensitive matter before either being proven guilty or let free as the case involves minors and is on a sensitive subject of child abuse. "Gava will be back mid October after clearing his dirty stories," said a co-worker. "Was it for business or personal my dear," the co-worker further enquired.

He directed the paper to the Town Clerk Josiah Musuwo who showed that he did not know the inspector by the name Gava; probably as he oversees a wide portfolio that has tones of workers falling under his jurisdiction. "Who is Gava?" "Anyway I have two weeks now without having a management meeting that is why I am not aware of that story," he added.

"It is so surprising to hear news from my work place by people from Harare! I will call you as soon I receive that report," said Musuwo. Esther is not happy with the delay for the execution of justice either citing the influence by Gava in the town as the major cause. "Gava helped many people in the town to acquire residential stands because of his connections."

"Imagine Farai has not been taken to the doctor because of delay in processing papers. "Gava is walking freely after such a shameful and ruinous heinous act," said Esther. In the meantime there is a fear that the rape tests having been delayed in being processed, a lot of valuable evidence may have been lost as the clock ticks. With increasing tensions in the town and tempers among sane community members on the verge of boiling over, it may eventually be in the man's own interest and for his own safety to be in the safe hands of the state until he faces his day in court and justice is ultimately served.
