Zimbabwe central bank operated like a 'mafia': RBZ official

A senior RBZ official has said the central bank operated like a "mafia" during the decade-long economic crisis.
These disclosures came to light in a leaked American cable released recently by WikiLeaks, relating to when the then head of research at RBZ, Simon Nyarota, met with the American embassy economic specialist "after hours" on January 24 2008. According to the cable, sent by former US Ambassador James McGee and quoting the embassy's economic specialist, Nyarota complained that Gono no longer consulted his staff on decision-making policies and was playing to the whims of his political masters.
