A Mbembesi woman-Nombulelo Hadebe is fearing for her life after a snake which was handed to her by her ancestors died under her care.
The huge dark snake was killed by witch-hunters who visited her village last week.
"I surrendered the snake to the witch-hunters but I am afraid my ancestors will kill me for that," said Hadebe.
She says she now feels lonely after the death of the snake.
"I am not settled because my heart is painful. I miss the snake.
Trouble began when a group of witch-hunters descended in her village and order Hadebe to reveal her ‘evil private life".
Village head, Thobela Mpengesi confirmed the incident.
"Hadebe was asked to bring evil things she had and she brought a larger serpent. We could not ascertain its type. It was so big, dark and frightening."
