BUSINESS came to a halt at Sakubva Musika Bus Terminus last week when a tout stabbed a passenger with a knife on the left eye.
This was after the passenger had refused to board a commuter omnibus Patrick Maibvana (23), was touting passengers for.
A citizens' arrest was effected on Maibvana by other passengers who had witnessed the assault.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira, Maibvana denied the allegations and was granted $20 bail.
Prosecuting was Mr Donald Mudadirwa.
It was the State's case that Maibvana who was touting for passengers at the busy bus terminus came across Nyasha Mupata who wanted to board a commuter omnibus to Sakubva.
"Mupata refused to get into the omnibus that Maibvana was dragging him towards which resulted in the latter stabbing the former with a knife under his left eye. After stabbing him, Maibvana went on to punch and kick the complainant as he lay down," said Mr Mudadirwa.
He sustained a deep cut under his left eye and several bruises all over his body.
Responding to the allegations, Maibvana told the court that he did not stab the complainant, but had used bare hands to assault him.
"Maybe my nails cut him and he mistook them for a knife. I did not have a knife. I admit assaulting him, but I was not alone. I was with two of my friends who are also touts and we assaulted him because he had provoked us," he said.
The matter was adjourned to October 22 for trial.
