Blame Gwanda council for water crisis - Zinwa tell residents

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) has said it is not in position to provide Gwanda with uninterrupted water supplies as it has no money to procure treatment chemicals.
Zinwa blames the lack of money on the municipality.
Gwanda has in the past months experienced crippled water shortages.
Recently, a boy drowned at Mtshabezi River while fetching water.
Below is the full Zinwa statement:
"The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) under its Mzingwane Catchment has a water supply agreement with Gwanda Municipality.
"Zinwa operates and maintains the raw water source, Blanket/Mjeni Dam, raw water pipeline, pick weir and raw water abstraction works and the water treatment plant from which the Authority supplies bulk treated water to Gwanda Municipality on a cost recovery bases.
"In turn Gwanda Town Council is obliged to pay for the service provided by Zinwa. It is Gwanda Municipality's responsibility to ensure the distribution of the treated water obtained from Zinwa to the residents of Gwanda.
"Residents pay for their water consumption directly to Gwanda Municipality.
"Residents of Gwanda have over the past month experienced limited access to water which is both regrettable and unfortunate and we hope that a lasting solution to the situation will be found in the shortest possible time.
"Currently resources to treat the water and ensure uninterrupted water supplies are severely limited due to very low and insufficient payments by the Gwanda Municipalities for the bulk treated water supplied by Zinwa.
Against this background, Zinwa is therefore not in a position to provide normal uninterrupted water supply due to lack of eater treatment chemicals, spare parts for repairs and maintenance, among other things.
Under these difficult operating conditions, Zinwa shall however, endeavour to supply water as far as practical. The situation is expected to improve once the payment plan recently entered into between Zinwa and Gwanda Municipality is adhered to.
The Gwanda community is further urged to refer their grievances concerning the supply of water to the Municipality".
