Death of Jonathan Moyo's daughter under police investigation

The cause of death of Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education Professor Jonathan Moyo's daughter Zanele was still under police investigation, the family has revealed. Zanele Naledi Ntombizodwa Moyo was found dead on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Briefing some senior Government officials who had gone to pay condolences to the family, just before he left for South Africa yesterday, Prof Moyo said the family did not know when and how Zanele had died.

"She was found dead in a tub. We do not know when it happened or how it happened. She had an injury on the forehead and there was blood on the floor. The case is under police investigation," he said.

Some of the senior officials who were present and saw Prof Moyo off to South Africa are Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prisca Mupfumira, Sports and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane, Deputy Minister of Tourism Anastancia Ndlovu, Hurungwe East National Assembly Membe, Sarah Mahoka, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr John Mangudya and businessman Philip Chiyangwa.

Zanele was pursuing a Political Science, International Relations and Gender Studies degree at the University of Cape Town.

She was the second youngest of Prof Moyo's five daughters and was born in Kenya. She attended Arundel School and did her Advanced Level at Heritage School in Harare.

Meanwhile, ZANU-PF chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo has sent a condolence message to the Moyo family on the death of their daughter.

"My family and I were shocked to learn of the death of Professor Jonathan Moyo's daughter Zanele in South Africa. Only yesterday (Saturday), I travelled to Bulawayo with Prof Moyo on different Government business.

"Little did we know that by the end of the day, tragedy would have struck the family so painfully. We mourn with the family and pray for the family.

"May the good Lord render them strength and power during this difficult period. God's calendar is not negotiable .May Zanele's dear soul rest in eternal peace ," he said .

Mourners are gathered at number 7 Rosary Close, Borrowdale in Harare.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
