TechnoMag partners with Zimbabwe government on Tech@School

TechnoMag, a leading local online Technology Magazine has partnered the government of Zimbabwe to bring all the nation's higher and tertiary students studying Technology and journalism to converge at Harare polytechnic college for the national career guidance and technology exhibition and expo aptly dubbed Tech@School to be officially opened by Professor Jonathan Moyo next week.

Tech@School is a TechnoMag initiative driven by the Ministry of ICT Postal and Courier Services in conjunction with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development and the Ministry of Public Service labour and social welfare to connect Higher and Tertiary institutions to business and the industry, namely Universities, Polytechnics and Private colleges on the 30th October 2015 at Harare Institute of Technology (HIT).

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Dr Machivenyika Mauranga said that this was in line with their mandate as government to beneficiate the higher and tertiary students.

"Connecting our higher and tertiary institutions to business serves a very fundamental purpose as we also showcase the various solutions to industry which our research institutions are working on hence we are inviting all the universities, polytechnics and private owned colleges to also come and showcase their various projects during this day"

The permanent secretary in the ministry of ICT Postal and courier Services engineer Sam Kundishora said the career expo will go a long way to help job seekers identify career opportunities across the technological sector.

Speaking to the founder and Editor in chief of TechnoMag, Mr Toneo Tonderai Rutsito Ndebele, he said that this is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to play a pivotal role with government to add value to the academia who are facing a plethora of challenges.

"We have a national problem where thousands of our graduates are joining the unemployment statistics, life after graduation is no longer promising, worse off thousands are finding it difficult to get industrial attachment during their learning course, this is our way to open up doors for the students to industry and the entrepreneurial world."

To speak and inspire the students, renowned industry players including Mr Shingi Mutasa of Masawara TA Holdings, Douglas Mboweni the Econet Wireless Zimbabwe CEO, Dr Shingi Munyeza a Busines mogul, US Embbasy Dep Public Affairs Officer Nicole Finnemann, ZOL CEO Denny Marandure and Netone managing director Mr Reward Kangai.

Leading technology companies will be sponsoring and partnering towards this Tech@School initiative and the corporate sponsors are NetOne, Potraz,Telone, ZOL Zimbabwe, Huawei, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe,Liquid Telecoms, Powertel, Itech, Gtel, Astro, MakProductions,Makcomms, Esset Zimbabwe, SGC,PMC, Nettcash, Doves and Zimpapers as the official media partner.Many more companies are billed to exhibit at this event.

According to TechnoMag, Tech@School will also be opening up an unprecedented opportunity to business and industry to identify opportunities, pursue business interest and help nature solutions from the academic and research institutions in Zimbabwe.

The founder of TechnoMag and a technology entrepreneur strongly believes that Zimbabweans can formulate their own solutions instead of magnifying the problems, but rather should sit down and unlock power using the resources that we already have.

The Tech@School program will have a career guidance session, mentoring session, closed door session for business and institution for a mutually beneficial session before breaking out for exhibition where industry would be given the chance identify the opportunities being showcased in as much as they also exhibit their products and innovations which the research institutions can add back value to.

The Tech@School initiative was officially launched in Bulawayo at the National University of Science and Technology NUST by Deputy Minister Hon Win Mlambo, and was a huge success receiving favourable reviewssparking the national initiatve. The Harare addition of this initiative seeks to be bigger and better with the programme seeking to have a more interactive feel.

"This event attracted about 1000 delegates in Matabeleland, this time around we are pitching it up at National level where we are expecting all the universities, polytechnics, colleges, business players and members of the public to walk in and witness the showcase of Zimbabwean tech players, an estimated minimum of 7 000 is expected!" added Rutsito

This expo will be held under the Theme "Connecting Business to Higher Tertiary institutions for mutually beneficial relationship" In that line they seek to open a mutually beneficial platform where both Institutions and business may find business cases and opportunities for their organisations, this shall be facilitated by a closed session after the career guidance session

This will concurrently run with a careers fair on the same day where various employees and prospective, will identify career opportunities to enhance their welfare.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology development Prof Jonathan Moyo will be the guest of honour and the ministry of ICT and Postal and Courier Services headed by Hon Supa Mandiwanzira will also be highly represented as the ICT Parent company which TechnoMag also falls under.

The event is free and open for all to come as it explores opportunities in Science Technology Engineering and Maths, (STEM). All students and practitioners studying journalism as well are invited to this national convention to embrace the online opportunities in today's journalism.

Huawei, Gtel and Astro will be giving away free smartphones to attendees throughout the day as part of the partnership understanding with TechnoMag.
