AN ex-Zimbabwean soldier, who was recently nabbed in Botswana after being found in possession of a loaded firearm at his rented house in Mmopane Block 1, Gaborone, was last week denied bail by the Broadhurst Magistrates' Courts on the grounds that he was a flight risk.
According to Botswana's Voice newspaper, Mike Graduate Mutizwa (43) was told that magistrate Merafhe Tladi, who is presiding over the case, was away on leave and that forensic investigations into his case were still underway.
Mutizwa, a former Air Force lieutenant, was arrested recently following a tip-off and allegedly found in possession of a 9mm Makarov semi-automatic pistol with an erased serial number and nine rounds of ammunition.
He was allegedly also found with stacks of walkie-talkies and handcuffs as well as notebooks with military tactical information and certificates detailing his military credentials.
The unemployed Mutizwa was said to have been paying a monthly rental of P3 500 and the Botswana police said they suspect he could have been involved in criminal activities.
