THREE suspected robbers believed to be part of a gang that shot and killed a Banket businessman, Allan Keith Nicholson (61) last Tuesday have been arrested.

Nicholson was shot and killed by the gang as he tried to rescue his neighbour, Mr Timothy Morgan, who the gang had abducted.

Police found the body of Jimmy Machaka believed to be the fourth suspect, about 2km from the shoot out scene.

According to police, Machaka of Mvurwi, who was also wanted by the Vehicle Theft Squad for a spate of thefts of cars, died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during the shootout.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena, yesterday said the suspects were arrested between Monday and yesterday in Banket, Mutorashanga and Centenary.

"There were six armed robbers in a Toyota Ipsum, which we have since recovered in Centenary. But we have so far arrested three of the suspects with two of them appearing to have been shot during the shootout incident," he said.

Those arrested were Johanne Inero of Trymor Farm in Mutorashanga who had a gunshot wound on the left shoulder, Cry Nyamangara of Banket and Nyasha Mhindurwa of Centenary. Police have so far recovered two revolvers and a Star pistol, magazines and cartridges. One of the revolvers is believed to have been used to kill Nicholson. One of the guns was recovered near Machaka's body while the two were recovered from Inero in Mutorashanga. Snr Asst Comm Bvudzijena said investigations were in progress.
