A Mutare woman who had endured continuous assaults from her estranged husband divorced the man in the middle of a court session.

Sarah Zhuwawo had gone to the Civil Courts seeking a  protection order against Revai Makandiwa whom she describes as abusive and violent.

She told the court that her husband was in the habit of assaulting her and her child and at times brought girlfriends home whom he accommodates in their matrimonial bedroom.

"This husband is abusive and violent Your Worship, I am tired I need the law to take its course. Whenever he comes home, he harasses me and assaults me and my child to the extent that the child runs away to seek refuge at our neighbours' house.

"He has a number of girlfriends he brings home. I am tired of his wayward behaviour," said Zhuwawo.

Makandiwa admitted to assaulting his wife saying she was talkative.

"She is not submissive like what most wives do therefore she forces me to assault her."

Zhuwawo also told the court that her husband forces her to have unprotected sex yet he has many girlfriends. "Because he has many girlfriends, I suggested that we only have protected sex but he refuses.

"She forces himself on me," said Zhuwawo.

Soon after being granted the protection order, Zhuwawo stunned the gallery when she said she wanted permission to say something.

"I am applying for divorce Your Worship because I am facing many challenges in the marriage. I no longer want this abusive man since he is not changing his behaviour. I am tired," she said.
