Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko says corruption is disrupting development in the country.
Mphoko said this while addressing the Mkwasine community during his ongoing tour of Masvingo province.
Issues of corruption in various institutions in the country continue to be topical with many officials in government, parastatals and the private sector being fingered for bleeding the institutions they are governing.
Mphoko says investment in key sectors will not yield any meaningful results if corruption is allowed to continue.
"Nxa kule corruption iyabuya imali to come and help you, bethathe omavava laba bathathe bafake eskwameni so you lose (When funds are released to assist you, those who are corrupt convert the money to personal use and you lose out).
"It doesn't matter how much money you mobilise, as long as they are corrupt hands it will all go down the drain and those who are supposed to benefit will suffer," said Acting President Mphoko.
Earlier on Masvingo Minister of State Shuvai Mahofa called for punishment of all those found guilty of corruption during a meeting held between the Acting President and sugar cane growers.
Mahofa told Mphoko that Zimbabweans are unhappy that some officials involved in corrupt activities are going scot-free.
"Munongovaregerera muchivaregerera , ko hamungaroviwo one or two neshamhu? People are saying dai vangoitwao example kuti isu sevakuru vasingade corruption tamborovawo munhu neshamhu. (People are saying why are you forgiving them. Why not punish one or two and set an example so that people really see your commitment as leaders in curbing corruption)," Mahofa said.
The meeting saw the farmers highlighting their challenges to the Vice President among them the high interest rate of loans by a commercial entity that offered them loans and has since pegged the interest rates at 38 percent.
A2 farmers in the province were issued with over 15 000 hectares of land to grow sugar cane.
