THE wheels of justice are moving at a snail's pace in a sex scandal involving a senior teacher at Hartzell High School who allegedly had sex with a Form Two orphan at the institutions' Fairfield Orphanage and infected her with a sexually transmitted disease early this year.
The teacher, Mr William Mukwindidza is alleged to have infected an orphan (name supplied) with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). When The Manica Post visited the school's premises early this week the disturbing issue was the subject of talk at the institution. The headmaster, Mr Shorwi Kawadza refused to talk to the Press, referring all questions to Mutasa District Education Officer, Mr Zachariah Chikwangwani.
Mr Chikwangwani confirmed that the ministry was investigating the case in which Mr Mkwindidza allegedly had sex with a Form Two orphan at Fairfield Orphanage.
"We are currently investigating the case where Mr Mkwindidza allegedly had sex with a Form Two orphan at Fairfield Orphanage. At the moment we cannot furnish you with much detail since investigations are still in progress. We have also referred the matter to police and they are dealing it from a legal point of view," said Mr Chikwangwani.
When The Manica Post visited Hartzel High early this week, it was evident that most people knew about the case but somehow fear was written all over their faces as none dared discuss the issue at length with this paper. Fairfield orphanage matron, who was identified as Mrs Mabvumbe, said the institution was worried about the case which was taking long to be finalised.
"I am not allowed to talk to the Press. We referred the case to Social Welfare and they are the ones who can give you more detail. We are equally worried that the case has taken too long to be finalised. The man is still here but we thought he should have been apprehended long back. At the end of the day all we can do is to report to the relevant offices but we cannot force them to do as we wish,'' she said.
According to Google, Pelvic inflammatory disease, commonly called PID, is an infection of the female reproductive organs. PID is one of the most serious complications of a sexually transmitted disease in women. It can lead to irreversible damage to the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other parts of the female reproductive system, and is the primary preventable cause of infertility in women.
The young girl is understood to have been taken to the Social Welfare offices in Mutare before being taken to Mutare General Hospital where she is receiving counselling and treatment.
