Zanu-PF MP fails to pay Zupco for 27 buses hired during 2013 election campaign

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Bus Company Limited (ZUPCO) has dragged Chegutu East legislator, Dexter Nduna to court on summons over a $25 000 debt.

The bus company accused Nduna of failing to pay for 27 buses he hired during his 2013 election campaign.

ZUPCO filed summons at the High Court claiming $25 000 allegedly arising from the hiring of buses by Nduna between June and July 2013.

ZUPCO alleges that Nduna requested for 27 buses which he intended to use for transport purposes during his campaigns.

According to the agreement, Nduna was expected to pay the hiring fees which varied from trip to trip depending on the distance covered.

On the 24th of June 2013, Nduna allegedly hired six buses for Chegutu constituency for a total cost of $8 000 before hiring six more buses for a rally in Chinhoyi for a total cost of $9 000 on the 18th of June 2013.

On the 25th of July 2013, he hired seven buses in Chegutu and on the 31st of July 2013, he hired eight buses.

For the 27 buses, he hired he was charged $34 000 but allegedly paid US$9200 only, leaving a balance of almost $25 000.

ZUPCO seeks the outstanding $25 000 plus interest at the prescribed rate of five percent per annum with effect from date of demand until date of payment in full plus costs of the law suit.
