Zimbabwe government says it fully appreciates the support from China in the agricultural mechanisation sector which is set to consolidate the gains of the land reform programme, ZBC News reported.
The Minister of State in Acting President John Nkomo's Office, Mrs. Flora Bhuka who received the agricultural equipment on behalf of Nkomo said government has been failing to fully capacitate farmers with the necessary equipment due to liquidity constraints adding that the support from China will enhance productivity on the farms.
"The challenge of national food shortages has been as a result of droughts and shortage of critical inputs and machinery and the donation of tractors and water pumps will assist in the current efforts to revive irrigation programmes," he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Xin Shun Kun expressed his country's commitment to ensuring the success of Zimbabwe's agrarian reform.
He said a complete package for mechanisation is critical in achieving food security.
China has provided thirty tractors, ten trucks and water pumps for small scale farmers.
China has proved to be a supporter of the country's land reform programme and recently unveiled a US$14 million package that is expected to ease the country's food problems.
