Mall of Zimbabwe construction in limbo

Construction of the multi-million dollar Mall of Zimbabwe Complex which was supposed to have begun in 2013 has been frustrated by red tape.
Mr Ken Sharpe the executive chairman of Augur Investments which was spearheading the project says construction might commence in the next five or 10 years.
The construction of the US$100 million mall which was going to be the first of its kind in Zimbabwe has been delayed by a number of challenges, chief among them red tape and the liquidity challenge that the country is currently faced with.
Mr Sharpe said they have cleared the wetland issue with the Environmental Management Agency but construction will start within the next 5 or 10 years when all the modalities have been put in place.
"The opposition has almost been insurmountable but we have resolved the wetland saga and we have been cleared by the High Court," said Mr Sharpe.
Augur Investments, through its unit West Properties and their development partner, will build the exquisite mall on a piece of land it got from the government in exchange for designing and constructing part of the Harare International Airport road.
The mall will have about 150 shops, including restaurants, retail and fast food businesses as well as recreational facilities to create a one-stop-shop destination centre with many multi-national chains and local companies.
