Rubbish litter irks Bulawayo councillor

Bulawayo Councillor Thobani Ncube has expressed concerns over the rampant littering occurring in the city amid calls for speedy messages of cleanliness to be spread to the communities.

According to latest council minutes Councillor said he observed a worrying increase in littering within the Community.

"Council should therefore speed the message of cleanliness and general smartness in order to spread awareness to residents on the need to maintain a clean environment," he said.

Bulawayo has seen in increase in the number of fruits and vegetables vendors who are being blamed for littering the city.

Ncube commended the Department of Health Services for its past efforts in larviciding and fumigating for rodent and mosquito control.

He urged the Health Services Department to continue the good work to ensure non recurrence of such vermin in residential areas.

Ncube appreciated the department's efforts in controlling the dog nuisance.

There was now need also to turn the focus on stray cats as these were becoming a menace throughout the residential areas.

Indeed concerns had been raised on this issue at feed back meetings with residents.
