Bruce Wharton, the outgoing Unted States (US) Ambassador to Zimbabwe, said he would continue ensuring the development of Zimbabwe beyond the lapse of his term, CAJ News reported.
Wharton's term expires in December after which he returns to his country to become the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs at the Department of State. He will be succeeded by Harry Thomas.
Wharton said he remained deeply committed to the ideals on which Zimbabwe, where he served from 2012, was founded, ideals that Americans and Zimbabweans shared.
"I will do everything I can to support progress toward those ideals in the U.S, in Zimbabwe, and across Africa and the world. I will miss many friends here, and hope to return in a few years - perhaps when we open our new embassy - to renew those friendships," Wharton said.
