A senior army officer, Captain Faster Gono allegedly drew out a pistol and threatened to shoot at Miriam Chiwa during Zanu PF ward elections.

The melee happened at Kamba Primary school in Triangle.

Chiwa is the wife of MP Darlington Chiwa and she was contesting for the position of chair in the ward elections after her earlier victory in the same elections was nullified.

Gono pulled out the pistol after disturbances pitting Chiwa's supporters against those of former Governor Titus Maluleke. Chiwa was accused of belonging to former Vice President Joyce Mujuru while Gono was allegedly fighting in the corner of Maluleke who is believed to be from the Mnangagwa faction.

Captain Gono said he was acting in self-defense and added that he was provoked by MP Chiwa who called him a gay.

Miriam said she was shocked by the actions taken by Captain Gono.

"He pointed a pistol at me for merely querying his business as a soldier at a Zanu PF internal election.

"I saw a black pistol pointed at me while he was saying your candidate is a gamatox and will not be elected here. One of my supporters Wilford Shave had to throw himself into the firing line and demanded that Gono shoot him instead. We made a Police report and our hope is that Police will take action," she said.
