Turmoil has returned to the Europe chapter of the Zimbabwe African People's Union, Zapu after secretary general, Raphael Mguni is said to have suspended all activities and ordered the cancellation of all meetings of the provincial executive and other party structures.

A source from the Brighton branch of the party told said that the secretary general, who recently returned from Zimbabwe wrote and advised the provincial committee that a meeting planned for this weekend in the midlands was unconstitutional and ordered its cancellation. It is understood that other leaders of various organs were due to attend the meeting which has since been called off.

"As far as we understand, all Zapu ,meetings until further notice have been cancelled by the secretary general, we have not been told why, but that is what we have been told" , the source said.

According to the zapu website, a members general meeting and an election for a new committee are due to be held in Europe on the 29th of October.

Since 2009 after announcing their pullout from the 1987 unity accord, the Dabengwa led Zapu has made very little progress because of power struggles in South Africa, Zimbabwe and the UK. Recently, at a meeting in Johannesburg, members are said to have been up in arms demanding that Secretary general Mguni resigns if he continues to live in the diaspora and not in Zimbabwe.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the recently opened party's office in London were unsuccessful as the telephone went to an answering continuously.
