Heal Zimbabwe Trust condemns political violence

The Heal Zimbabwe Trust has condemned the upsurge in cases of politically motivated violence that continue to be recorded in the country in the past 2 months.
"The recent gruesome murder of Lloyd Jambawu and Marko Masenda on Saturday, 14 November who were part of ZANU PF local district executive in Chitungwiza by Proud Mupambwa, the vice chairman of ZANU PF Ward 4B, is testimony to the fact that without the existence of a peace commission such as the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC), political violence will continue to pose a serious threat to the attainment of peace, healing and reconciliation in Zimbabwe," said the trust.
The trust said the Chitungwiza murder case comes against a background where political temperatures are currently high.
"Last week a group of ZANU-PF youths in Highfield West were involved in an intra-party fight due to some differences regarding party restructuring processes. Another incident of inter-party violence also occurred on Tuesday 10 November in Mbare where MDC-T youths were attacked by ZANU-PF supporters resulting in 3 people sustaining serious injuries," the trust said.
"All these violent episodes are manifesting in an environment where Government is delaying in setting up the NPRC, a constitutional commission with a mandate of ensuring post-conflict justice, healing and reconciliation."
The trust said it was greatly appalled by lack of political tolerance among political parties which in itself throws into disarray the prospects for the prevalence of peace and healing in communities.
"Heal Zimbabwe is of the firm belief that if the Government sets up the NPRC, and allows it to fully operate professionally without fear or favour, the Commission can help develop mechanisms for early detection of areas of potential conflicts and disputes and take appropriate preventative measures and also break cycles of violence," the trust said.
"Heal Zimbabwe implores the Government to swiftly set up the NPRC and also urges Political parties to exercise tolerance and internal democracy as Peace begins with you, Peace begins with me, Peace begin with all of us."
